SHE'S AN AMERICAN GIRL with Crocheted Afghans

We have a new addition to our home.
Light skin, layered red hair, brown eyes.

Frannie doesn't actually "play" with dolls any longer.  She enjoys styling their hair.  We both like to craft, knit, crochet and sew for them.  That's how I first learned to sew - by making doll clothes.

Do you see that cute, raspberry beret American Girl #35 is wearing?  I didn't make that.  But I could have.  If I wanted to.  Tongue-in-cheek.

I did crochet these two, doll-sized afghans with coordinating pillows especially for her.  My pattern cue for the white, pink and aqua afghan came from Mille Makes and Dottie Angel.  You can find the tutorial here.  The pink/aqua afghan was inspired by Helen Philipps.  It looks just like the one she made. There is no pattern (I just winged it), but you can view it here.  The pillows are crocheted rounds (front and back are the same) that were stuffed with fiberfill and tufted with buttons (vintage buttons on the white pillow).

NEEDLES AND PINS

Here's a teacup pincushion I made as one of my Christmas gifts. The cushion part is covered in bits of an old lace curtain. It is surrounded in a bed of ruffled crepe paper and nestled in a teacup. After gluing the cup and saucer together, I embellished the dish with a crepe paper rose, button heart, and beaded strawberry. I also adorned the top of the cushion with some decorated pins. One is a vintage pink button with rhinestones, the second one is a vintage mother-of-pearl button with an initial attached, and the third is simply a pearl-headed pin with an alphabet bead sandwiched between two pink beads and inserted into the handle of a silver-tone teacup charm. There are also a few pearl-headed pins randomly inserted into the lace.

BUTTON UP YOUR OVERCOAT

Here is one of the Christmas decorations I have been working on this year. She's almost ready for Noël à Paris. All she has to do is adjust her chapeau.

I LOVE THE FLOWER GIRL

Flowers In Her Hair

Flowers Everywhere

I Love The Flower Girl

She Seemed So Sweet And Kind
She Crept Into My Mind

Sunday was Frannie's First Holy Communion and I wanted to show you the headpiece I made for this special event. I used a plain, 2-inch wide plastic headband that I purchased at Michael's for the base. Then I made some roses out of crepe paper streamers that I had previously gathered up. Next, I went through my stash and found all kinds of oohs and ahhs to fill in the blanks, including vintage buttons with rhinestones, pearls, and sparkly Christmas garland that I cut into pieces. Then my bff (the hot glue gun) and I got right to work. Frannie was thrilled!
